”A portrait of our children, once a week, every week, in 2013″
As discussed in this post, Lily is becoming quite picky with her food, especially around vegetables. So one of my strategies is to get her to interact more with food. We have planted a vegetable garden and she is helping more in the kitchen too.
Last night she helped make pizzas for dinner. And even though she ended up playing with her own wooden pizza instead of eating her dinner, it was still fun for her and I hope after many more tries she will start eating more vegetables again.
How do your kids to eat vegetables? How do you get them to help in the kitchen?

I think that’s a great tactic. Fortunately food is one of Eve’s easy areas, so I don’t have any tips.
You are so lucky! Lily was like that until 20 months!
awwh she is cute.
Its pretty hard some days she eats tomatoes, baby spinach, corn, lettuce, carrots (raw), mushrooms & other days I have to puree carrots, zucchini & other veggies into our meatloaf, pasta sauce & other things she doesn’t seem to notice.
Thanks for visiting! Meat loaf is a great idea to ‘hide’ the veggies.
Lily is so cute and love the way she is happy helping in the kitchen!
I do as Victoria suggested purée in sauces, curries or bake on bread…but here vegetables are seen as friends but fruits as big enemy! x
I wouldn’t mind hearing about what vegetables have worked for you! I know in Japan mushrooms, daikon are pretty popular. Do toddlers enjoy them as well?
Oh gosh, she is SO adorable! Look at her little cheeks!
Thank you! Yes her chipmunk cheeks are very cute but don’t let her looks deceive you!
Beautiful
Logan is really picky as well but apparently they grow out of it. Bugger these stages!
Yes there is always something else once you’ve ‘mastered’ a stage!
She looks adorable I love her hair

Hi Sass! (From the other Sass)… just catching up on all of your news. Congratulations on your 2nd pregnancy and expecting another girl. Yay Team Pink!
Alexandra is 16 months old now and is really in to making “choices” at dinner time (i.e. she used to eat everything put in front of her, but now she is asserting herself a bit more). This means that we make LOTS of mince rissole things (chicken/lamb/fish/beef) and stuff them full of grated vegies and even apples for sweetness. I still offer “whole” vegetables on the plate but if she barely touches them I’m not phased, as she has generally scoffed the meat-based component which is laden with good stuff!
It’s a tricky time, but from what I understand (friends and family with older kids) is that you have to make meal times relaxed and fun… the more stress/anxiety exuded from the parents, the more fussy and ant-social behaviour emerges from the child!
Anyway, sounds like you are on a good path with Lily and lots of helpful advice here!
Hello there Sass!!
Can’t believe ur little one is a toddler now! I’m still pretty much at the same stage with the vege thing so still grating and chopping finely.
Good to hear things are well with you!
